IMG_5843This is such a beautiful flower. I knew I needed to use it for my blog today. I couldn’t remember what it was called at first – I had to ask.

It’s called a Datura. It’s poisonous yet beautiful. In some cultures it is used as a hallucinogen. No, don’t worry, I’m not planning on giving it a try. 🙂

In other cultures it’s used as an aphrodisiac. It is even used in rituals and prayers to Lord Shiva.

It starts off tightly closed and then slowly opens up so you can see the lighter color inside with the light purple on the edges. Right in the middle it has the long stems of pollen that bees and other bugs enjoy working their way down and back up again. I’ve seen different insects do this, which is fun to watch. The bugs don’t mind.

The flower itself is gorgeous and grows freely all over here. If I would have looked at it as only this scary, poisonous plant, I would have missed the beauty it freely shares with all who gaze upon it.

One of the other reasons I’m drawn to this plant, though I didn't know this until I looked on wikipedia, is it belongs in a family of nine species, and they’re known as angel’s trumpets. Of course they would have to do with Angels – that’s why I’m so drawn to them. The Angels are everywhere.

So when you’re out and about in Mother Nature, enjoy what she has to offer. Don’t touch it, just look at it. There are so many awesome things around us as we are out strolling. Enjoy what’s there for you to see.

If something draws in your attention, just allow yourself the time to watch and see what you can see. Be open to the beauty.

Angel Blessings to you.
