Last weekend I did a free workshop called ‘The Power of Our Words’. I was at the Mile High Mystic Fall Fest. It went quite well. I felt like I gave good information and I think those that attended got something positive out of it.
There’s always room for improvement.
A friend gave me some good advice after the session. Lose the ‘but’. Take it out of your vocabulary.
When you say a sentence and you add ‘but…’, it negates the first part of what was said. So stop before you say ‘but’. If the rest of the sentence needs to be said, use the word ‘and’ instead (ex: it’s a beautiful day and it’s raining).
I’ve been paying attention to how often I say it and how often I write it. I have caught myself backspacing and deleting the word.
What other words may be good to remove from our vocabulary? Hmmm, now that’s an interesting thought.
How about ‘can’t’. Oh, here’s another good one – ‘try’.
That’s a great place to start. I’m removing these from my vocabulary:
- But
- Can’t
- Try
How many of you are saying ‘I will try, but I can’t promise anything.’ HA HA HA!
How about you? Which words might you ditch for the future? Add your words in the comment section below.
Angel Blessings to you.

words I have "ditched", the 3 you have plus:
Won't, and any coments like, I'd like to, I want to, I'm going to, I will, I would, I could, I should, anything that put's you in the Past or future. Those I take out. The,can't won't, etc are negatives and will never happen, the I'm going to, I will etc are in the future and that's not going to happen. Then there's the, shoulda, woulda, coulda. past. we need to live in the now, get rid of negative, past or future words and live in the now with the now words,
Thank you Lawrence. You brought up some great ones! I got called on a ‘should’ yesterday – and remember another friend always saying ‘don’t should on yourself’. 🙂
I think a ‘buddy’ helps with the catching of the words we use…
