Have there been times in your life when you haven’t been your true self? I would bet we are all in the same boat on this one with an answer of yes.
Are there times when it’s OK to not be authentic? This is something you will need to decide for yourself.
Maybe you put on a facade because you were just meeting someone for the first time and weren’t sure what the protocol was. Maybe it was a time when you were nervous so you put on the mask of someone you know who has more confidence in that type of situation. Maybe you do it and you don’t even realize you’re doing it because it’s more of a ‘learned response.’
What kind of a face do you put out to others? Is it the same for everyone?
There are situations where the expectation is that you have to act in a certain way. However, you can do so while still being true to who you are. I’m speaking of situations where there may be specific protocols to follow – a dinner party where it is more formal than you are used to.
When you are with your friends, are you authentic and real or do you still have a mask you wear? Are you able to be who you truly are, deep inside and act like the true you? If not, why not? Are you trying to be something you are not or are you hiding? And if so, what are you afraid of?
A mask takes a lot of energy to keep on. Do you really think you are fooling anyone?
Try something today. Let your guard down. Don’t put up a front. Be your authentic self. Let the light you are within shine through any facades, any artificial covers. No more pretending. Be who you were born to be. Be who your soul is telling you to be.
We are all spiritual beings having a human experience. Allow your spiritual being be the face you put out to others. See how differently the world looks to you and how once you are authentic, your outside world acts accordingly.
You can always put your mask back on later though I doubt you will want to.
